TSW / TRACKER IR Series

Well this week it was a short race at Nashville and then off to Pocono for the first of several series races at the most beautiful and raciest tracks in the circuit. The 01, driven by S. Collins finished in the top 20 with a 14th place finish at Nashville. Collins stated "We struggled to stay on the lead lap the whole race. Never could get the car fast but was able to get it back on the lead lap with some strategy and a little luck." The 08 of M. Barron was off this week and no deals have been made on getting him to come up and run in the PRO series. MiA Motor Sports has begun negotiations on signing Barron for the upcoming November series but talks have not produced outcome to if Barron will start driving 08 for the rest of the present season. Sunday evening was an early blow to the MiA Motor Sports start in the Tracker IR series. S. Collins, 01 Chevy made a rookie mistake that cost an engine in lap 42 of the 60 lap race at Pocono. Collins was running at the tail of the lead lap keeping his car clean for a late strike. Collins stated he had changed his shifting pattern to see if he could pull some faster times but coming into turn 5 Collins missed a shift and red lined the 01 causing a caution ending a very long green run. Collins made it to the pits but coming out to line up the engine gave the smoke signal of death ending the race for the 01. Final finish for the 01 was 14th. Collins will attack Pocono again on Tuesday, Aug. 19th hoping to finish strong.

8/9/08 Nashville DDS Series

It was a slick track in Nashville Sat. night. MiA Motor Sports managed
to pull 2 top 10 finishes spite the ugly track conditions. M. Barron
driving the 08 POWMiA.COM Chevy took 4th with his teammate S. Collins
in the 01 POWMiA.COM Chevy stole 9th making it through a 4 car crash
that sent most of the field across the finish line any which way but
forwards. Owner and Driver Scott Collins stated "Look for the 08 in a
new paint scheme coming up in the next race. Hmmm, no more Twinkie
Cars. Well, fun while it lasted! It was an awesome surprise to see a
new track added to the ARCA SimRacing 08 menu, hello to the road
coarse! We welcome the Montreal Road Coarse. Hope everyone can turn
right. Next race is Sat. 8/16/2008 at Pocono Speedway. Both drivers
think of Pocono as the best course in series so look forward to some
great door to door racing. Anyone interested in getting involved with
the MiA Motor Sports Racing Program email powmiacl@powmiaclan.com.

Justices agree on right to own guns

By MARK SHERMAN, Associated Press WriterTue Mar 18, 7:19 PM ET

Americans have a right to own guns, Supreme Court justices declared
Tuesday in a historic and lively debate that could lead to the most
significant interpretation of the Second Amendment since its
ratification two centuries ago.

Governments have a right to regulate those firearms, a majority of
justices seemed to agree. But there was less apparent agreement on the
case they were arguing: whether Washington's ban on handguns goes too
far.

The justices dug deeply into arguments on one of the Constitution's
most hotly debated provisions as demonstrators shouted slogans outside.
Guns are an American right, argued one side. "Guns kill," responded the
other.

Inside the court, at the end of a session extended long past the
normal one hour, a majority of justices appeared ready to say that
Americans have a "right to keep and bear arms" that goes beyond the
amendment's reference to service in a militia.

Several justices were openly skeptical that the District of
Columbia's 32-year-old handgun ban, perhaps the strictest in the
nation, could survive under that reading of the Constitution.

"What is reasonable about a total ban on possession?" Chief Justice John Roberts asked.

Walter Dellinger, representing the district, replied that Washington
residents could own rifles and shotguns and could use them for
protection at home.

"What is reasonable about a total ban on possession is that it's a
ban only on the possession of one kind of weapon, of handguns, that's
considered especially dangerous," Dellinger said.

Justice Stephen Breyer appeared reluctant to second-guess local officials.

Is it "unreasonable for a city with a very high crime rate ... to say no handguns here?" Breyer asked.

Alan Gura, representing a Washington resident who challenged ban, said, "It's unreasonable and it fails any standard of review."

The court has not conclusively interpreted the Second Amendment
since its ratification in 1791. The amendment reads: "A well regulated
militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of
the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

The basic issue for the justices is whether the amendment protects
an individual's right to own guns no matter what, or whether that right
is somehow tied to service in a state militia.

A key justice, Anthony Kennedy, seemed to settle that question early
on when he said the Second Amendment gives "a general right to bear
arms." He is likely to be joined by Roberts and Justices Samuel Alito,
Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas — a majority of the nine-member
court.

Gun rights proponents were encouraged.

"What I heard from the court was the view that the D.C. law, which
prohibits good people from having a firearm ... to defend themselves
against bad people is not reasonable and unconstitutional," National
Rifle Association executive vice president Wayne LaPierre said after
leaving the court.

Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty said he hoped the court would leave
the ban in place and not vote for a compromise that would, for example,
allow handguns in homes but not in public places. "More guns anywhere
in the District of Columbia is going to lead to more crime. And that is
why we stand so steadfastly against any repeal of our handgun ban," the
mayor said after attending the arguments.

A decision that defines the amendment's meaning would be significant
by itself. But the court also has to decide whether Washington's ban
can stand and how to evaluate other gun control laws.

The justices have many options, including upholding a federal appeals court ruling that struck down the ban.

Solicitor General Paul Clement, the Bush administration's top
Supreme Court lawyer, supported the individual right but urged the
justices not to decide the other question. Instead, Clement said the
court should say that governments may impose reasonable restrictions,
including federal laws that ban certain types of weapons.

Clement wants the justices to order the appeals court to re-evaluate the Washington law. He did not take a position on it.

This issue has caused division within the administration, with
Vice President Dick Cheney taking a harder line than the official
position at the court.

In addition to the handgun ban, Washington also has a trigger lock requirement for other guns that raised some concerns Tuesday.

"When you hear somebody crawling in your bedroom window, you can
run to your gun, unlock it, load it and then fire?" Justice Antonin
Scalia said.

Roberts, who has two young children, suggested at one point that trigger locks might be reasonable.

"There is always a risk that the children will get up and grab
the firearm and use it for some purpose other than what the Second
Amendment was designed to protect," he said.

On the other hand, he, too, wondered about the practical effect
of removing a lock in an emergency. "So then you turn on the lamp, you
pick up your reading glasses," Roberts said to laughter.

Dellinger said he opened the lock in three seconds, although he conceded that was in daylight.

While the arguments raged inside, dozens of protesters mingled
with tourists and waved signs saying "Ban the Washington elitists, not
our guns" or "The NRA helps criminals and terrorists buy guns."

Members of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence chanted
"guns kill" as followers of the Second Amendment Sisters and Maryland
Shall Issue.Org shouted "more guns, less crime."

The City Council that adopted the ban said it was justified
because "handguns have no legitimate use in the purely urban
environment of the District of Columbia."

Dick Anthony Heller, 65, an armed security guard, sued the
district after it rejected his application to keep a handgun at his
home for protection in the same Capitol Hill neighborhood as the court.

The last Supreme Court ruling on the topic came in 1939 in U.S.
v. Miller, which involved a sawed-off shotgun. Constitutional scholars
disagree over what that case means but agree it did not squarely answer
the question of individual versus collective rights.

Roberts said at his confirmation hearing that the correct reading of the Second Amendment was "still very much an open issue."

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — Close to three-quarters of American youth
are ineligible to serve in the Army and patriotism among the country’s
recruitable population has been sliding since 2002.

That was the
assessment of a series of recent surveys conducted in fiscal 2006 and
early fiscal 2007 by the Army’s Center for Accessions Research and
presented Thursday by Gen. William S. Wallace, commanding general of
Training and Doctrine Command.

“It’s an Army problem, but it’s
also a national problem,” said Wallace, who presented a slice of the
report at the winter meeting of the Association of the United States
Army.

TraDoc is the major command that oversees Accessions
Command and the subordinate U.S. Army Recruiting Command. Recruiting is
seen as a looming and growing challenge as the Army begins to expand by
65,000 more soldiers.

According to Wallace, only 27 percent of youth between the ages of 17 and 24 are eligible for recruiting.

The
remaining 73 percent, he said, “are morally, intellectually or
physically” unfit for service. “It’s the lowest it’s been in more than
10 years.”

College, he said, is now the preferred post-high school activity and youths surveyed said they perceived the Army as “ordinary.”

According
to Wallace, those surveyed considered the Marine Corps “elite but
dangerous.” They considered the Navy “somewhat elite but safer” and the
Air Force was considered “elite and highly technical.”

One of the Army’s challenges, he said, was to be able to “break through the media clutter.”

Referring
to the Army’s four-month-old “Army strong” recruiting ad campaign,
Wallace said the study showed that 80 percent of youths don’t watch
commercials, 80 percent do some sort of text messaging, and 85 percent
have access to the Internet.

In spite of the challenges, he said,
the Army recruited 80,635 soldiers into the active component in fiscal
2006 and the year-to-date figures indicate the Army is at 107.8 percent
of its goal with a total of 2,055 soldiers.

The Reserve component, however, is behind at only 90 percent, or 804 soldiers short of where it wants to be for this date.

Still, he said, “we expect to meet our U.S. Army Reserve goals” although it will be gradual.

Unflinching is the word for 'Duty 4'

GIESON CACHO: GAME ON

Unflinching is the word for 'Duty 4'

Contra Costa Times

Article Launched: 11/23/2007 02:58:59 AM PST

Of all the memorable moments in "Call of Duty 4: Modern
Warfare," it's the mission on the AC-130 gunship that's seared into my
head. Removed from the firefight on the ground, the level gives players a
bird's-eye view of the battlefield as they take shots at squads of terrorists,
hustling through the Russian countryside.

A nameless spotter calls out directions: "One of the vehicles is moving
right now."

You fire, hoping to blow up a truck full of soldiers.

The scene looks exactly like one of those military clips on YouTube. A
grainy black-and-white video shows the fighters fleeing a vehicle;
unfortunately for one, he isn't fast enough to escape the enormous explosion.

"Ka-boom!" your spotter says.

There's a certain rawness to the exchange. It feels violent, at times
frightening, but altogether real. It's this authenticity that fuels the best
parts of Infinity Ward's latest shooter.

Taking its franchise beyond the previous World War II trappings, the studio
creates a thrilling experience based on a convoluted plot about Russian nukes,
a civil war and a revolution in a country in the Middle
East.

In normal "Call of Duty" fashion, Infinity Ward weaves the story
of three soldiers: British operatives named Sgt. John "Soap"
MacTavish and Lt. Price and U.S. Marine Sgt. Paul Jackson.

As these three soldiers, players endure numerous gunfights in the Middle
East and Russia.
They defend a stalled tank and rescue an informant. There's even a flashback
that segues into the game's final climactic mission through a nuclear silo.

As usual, Infinity Ward does a brilliant job scripting these sequences, but
it's early in the game during the Middle East
missions that the studio breaks new ground.

There's a scene in which you walk in the shoes of a deposed president. He's
carefully dragged out and thrown into a sedan. As the car threads its way
through an undisclosed Middle Eastern country, you're shown scenes of carnage
-- mass executions, gunfights and mayhem -- before you're strapped to a post.

You know what's coming, but there's a scary inevitability to all this, as
suddenly you're shot in the head by the revolutionary leader, Khaled Al-Asad.

The moment is brutal and quick and sets the tone for the first half.
Infinity Ward deals with death with a finality that's rare in video games.
Going six feet under doesn't mean respawning at the beginning of the level.
It's grim and dark and comes with the same jarring abruptness as the end of
"The Sopranos."

Starting with Russia,
the second half is more upbeat and flashier, balancing the dourness and
intensity of the first act with the type of clinched action sequences you'd
expect in a "Die Hard" film.

A sniper mission shows off the game's graphical prowess. Later, it delivers
a couple of chase missions through war-torn streets.

It's a decent change of pace before the climactic ending, where the impact
of death is again reinforced. On a broken bridge, you'll be faced with a
do-or-die situation -- but lucky for your character, this time he'll be on the
right side of a gun.

After beating the short single-player campaign, "Call of Duty 4"
offers more fun through its deep multiplayer experience. Set up almost like a
role-playing game, it makes you gain experience points by playing team
death-match and free-for-all matches.

As you level up your character, he'll gain access to more weapons and
special abilities called "perks." Eventually, you'll be able to hit
the top rank and call on air support and helicopters to smite opposing teams.

The whole experience is reminiscent of "Counter-Strike," except on
a grander scale. The battles can get frenetic, and it pays to work together
with your teammates to take down buildings and flank the opposition.

Although playing war online is a blast, it's the more serious themes that
players should pay attention to in "Call of Duty 4." The game excels
when it explores these raw moments and lets players walk in the weighted shoes
of a Marine or a soldier.

During wartime, these scripted scenes stop being a game and turn into
something more meaningful. These set-piece levels can change your perspective
and transform the work.

Yes, it's propaganda, but there's also a current of empathy running through
"Call of Duty 4" that lets you appreciate the sacrifices going on
abroad.

Multiplay Perks for CoD4

Last Stand
With Last Stand, you'll get one last ditch effort to continue the fight
before you bleed out, or take another lethal hit. When you customize
your class with Last Stand, or choose a default class which has it,
anytime you're taken down, you'll fall to the ground and instantly pull
out your side arm. While in Last Stand, you'll be firing your side arm
from the ground with one hand. Putting up one final last stand against
the enemy before you bleed out, or they put one final round into you.

Deep Impact
In
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, a new Bullet Penetration system has
been added to both single-player and multiplayer that allows you to
shoot through certain objects in the game that would normally be used
as cover (i.e. Walls, floors, ceilings). It changes the entire way you
play the game; suddenly it's not just about getting to cover, but about
getting to hard cover. In multiplayer, this can change your tactics
dramatically. Rather than simply picking a weapon to take into a
firefight, you can carefully craft your weapon's load out to the
environment you'll be fighting in.

Double Tap
Double Tap is pretty straight forward: put more rounds down range
quicker, because with Double Tap enabled, you'll have an increased rate
of fire on any weapon you have, including your pistol. The Double Tap
perk is ideal for the Flag Runners, Run and Gunners - i.e. the guys who
want to get into battle quickly, and wreak some havoc. It's also
perfect for CQB and interior fighting. Keep in mind though, every perk
has its pros and cons. If you choose Double Tap, you're going to have
to miss out on something else, not to mention how quickly you're going
to blow through your ammo if you're a spray-and-pray type of player.

Sleight of Hand
Sleight
of Hand allows for faster reloads. This means you can put the enemies
down, reload quicker, and get back into the fight faster. This perk is
ideal for the heavy machine gunners, such as the M60 shown in the video
or an M249 SAW gunner due to the normally long reload times of changing
out ammo drums. Although when it comes to an intense fire fight, a
faster reload time comes in handy with just about any weapon you use
because every second counts.

C4 Explosives
C4
doesn't need a ton of explanation - it's a perfect perk for objective
game types such as Search and Destroy where you can set traps for your
enemy, and for faster paced games like Free For All (Deathmatch) where
you can lead your target towards you and blow them up with well placed
C4.

Dead Silence
With the Dead Silence perk, you'll make less noise when you move, which
means you'll be able to easily sneak up on unsuspecting enemies for a
swift knife melee. Dead Silence is great for stealthy style players who
want to flank around or sneak in behind their enemies undetected. For
the true, ghost player, Dead Silence combined with a customized weapon
load out with a suppressor and UAV Jammer, allows for some serious
stealth action. This perk is useful in just about every situation and
game type, because getting the jump on the enemy always works out in
your favor.

UAV Jammer
This perk allows you to stay off of the enemy's radar, making it a
great perk for snipers and anyone that wants to play stealth-style.

Extreme Conditioning
This
perk gives an extended time added to the sprint feature. If you want to
get in and out, fast, then this is the perk for you!
